My name is Tariq Khan, and I am proud to be running to serve as your next City Councillor for Ward 5 — a community I’ve called home for the past 28 years.
I’ve raised my family here. My children studied in local public schools, and I built my small business near Prairie Winds Park. I’ve seen firsthand the strength, diversity, and resilience of our community — and I’ve also felt the frustration when our voices are ignored at City Hall.
This campaign isn’t just about politics — it’s about people. It’s about you, your families, and the future we want to create together.
City Council’s recent tax increases are hurting families and small businesses. I will fight to stop reckless spending and ensure your hard-earned tax dollars are respected — not wasted on billion-dollar projects like the Rogers Arena while basic community needs are ignored.
Everyone deserves to feel safe — at home, in school, and on the streets. I will advocate for:
• Increased police visibility in high-crime areas
• Enhanced youth engagement and mentorship programs
• Stronger support for neighborhood watch and community patrols
• School safety initiatives to keep children away from drugs and gang influence
Transportation should not be a barrier. I will push for free Calgary Transit passes for:
• Seniors aged 65 and above
• Youth under the age of 18
This will help families, reduce isolation for seniors, and support working parents and students.
Ward 5 is growing, but City resources are not keeping up. I will fight for:
• New recreational centers and sports facilities
• Parks and community halls that reflect our diversity
• Fair funding that benefits all neighborhoods — not just the downtown core
I believe in funding grassroots solutions. I will champion more city support for:
• Non-government organizations tackling drug addiction, domestic violence, and mental health
• Community-led education and after-school programs for youth
• Local associations working to build safer, healthier, and more inclusive communities
